If you grow up as a gender variant person in a transphobic or homophobic environment, the chances are that you have been exposed to some kind of invalidation, harassment and social pressure to conform.

Sally Molay has an interesting article on how to cope with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) as queer or trans.

Whether this kind of invalidation leads to persistent psychological problems is a matter of personality and support. Having one important person around that accepts and love you for who you are, may make a huge difference in this respect. But if you live in fear of social exclusion, you may not find that person.

But living with fear day after day, year after year, does something your mind and it does something to your body. Even when you finally get out of the environment that makes you sick, your body carries with it layer upon layer of fear and stress.

So what can you do to make your mind/body system regain som kind of balance?

This is what Sally discusses over at my blog, Crossdreamers.
